Designed to look like the stadium is mushrooming out of
the side of a mountain, Guadalajara’s newest soccer venue is a
technological feat. With a mere budget of 100 million USD, it seems
like half of that should go to covering accidental eruption insurance.
In fact the stadium isn’t actually built on a volcano, but resembles
one in design. The seamless transition from grass to stadium and the
seating that resembles a cloud after eruption, both help to create the
illusion. A fascinating trend architect Jean-Marie Massaud plans to
incorporate is using outside activities to add to the stadium’s appeal.
In this case, he is building a skate park inside the stadium in case
the fans get restless.
